Vokk is built privacy-first. This policy explains, plainly, what the App does and does not do with your data. The short version: your speech and the text it becomes are yours, and they stay on your Mac.
Local mode (the default). Vokk transcribes your speech using a speech-recognition model that runs directly on your Mac. In this mode, your audio and the resulting text never leave your device — there is no network request for transcription at all.
Cloud mode (optional, off by default). Vokk offers an optional cloud transcription mode that you can turn on if you are on a memory-constrained machine. When — and only when — you enable it, the audio you dictate is sent over an encrypted connection to our transcription provider (Groq), which returns the text. That audio is used solely to produce your transcription and is not stored by us, and, per our provider, is not retained or used to train models. If you prefer nothing ever leaves your Mac, stay in local mode.
We deliberately collect as little as possible. The limited data that does touch our servers is only what's needed to run the trial, verify a license, and deliver the app:
We count requests for public website pages and download links on our server, grouped by day and broad traffic source. These statistics do not use visitor cookies, fingerprints, persistent visitor IDs, or retained IP addresses. We do not store full referring URLs or browsing histories in these statistics, and do not send them to OpenAI. Repeated requests may be counted more than once; a download request does not confirm an installation. Our hosting provider processes network information to deliver and protect the site. We separately count verified paid orders and gross receipts without storing customer details in this dashboard. Administration uses a secure login cookie and short-lived, keyed IP hashes to limit login abuse.
If you choose “Accept” in the cookie banner on vokk.ai, we use OpenAI’s advertising measurement script to report page views, download-button clicks, and verified purchases (including amount and currency). A download click does not mean an installation. OpenAI receives browser/network information associated with these requests, an ad-click identifier stored in a first-party cookie, and an opaque event identifier used to avoid counting a purchase twice. We do not intentionally send your name, email, license key, audio, or transcript through this integration, and we do not load the measurement script on the interactive dictation demo. OpenAI’s script may automatically detect and hash supported customer information when present on a measured page; our measured pages do not ask you to enter customer information.
Measurement is off until you allow it. You can change your choice using “Cookie preferences” on the website. We respect Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. We retain your website measurement choice in browser storage and remember reported purchase identifiers there to avoid duplicates. Clearing browser storage resets these preferences. Events already sent cannot be recalled by changing the setting. Our integration requests that events not be used for future user-level personalization. OpenAI handles the received data under its privacy policy.
Advertising attribution depends on browser storage and the configured attribution window. Website measurement does not add tracking to the Mac app.
Vokk needs microphone access to hear you when you hold its activation key. macOS asks for your permission before this is granted. Audio is captured only while you are actively dictating, and — in local mode — is processed on your device and discarded.
A small number of trusted providers help deliver the service: our payment provider (merchant of record for purchases), our transcription provider (Groq, used only in optional cloud mode), and our infrastructure/content host (for licensing and model downloads). Each handles only the limited data described above and under its own terms.
Because your transcription history lives on your Mac, you can view or delete it yourself at any time. For anything held by our payment provider (such as billing records), or to ask a question about your data, contact us at [email protected] and we will help.
Vokk is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
